Welcome true believers! My name is Tracy B. and I am a Cataloging Librarian at a large library system in central Texas. I have been working in libraries since 2011 and prior to a career in librarianship, I was an AmeriCorps VISTA for two year helping to run after school programs for low income students at a middle sided elementary school in Central Wisconsin.
My individual comic book journey started fifteen years ago and I got into librarianship to share my passion with others by making comics more accessible to librarians and patrons. Fables by Bill Willingham, Mark Buckingham, Steve Leialoha, Craig Hamilton, and Todd Klein, was the first comic book I read with an regularity. From there, I discovered many superhero, independent, and web comics which only increased my love of the art of comic story telling, especially as it pertains to education.
Librarians with Issues is a comprehensive blog. We’ll explore collection development, reader’s advisory, current new and event, and cataloging and technical service and cataloging specific posts. As a cataloger by trade, it pains me to read on listservs and forums how much people dislike comics because they are difficult to maintain a comprehensive collection and confusing to catalog, so many of my technical service specific posts will deal directly with these issues.
The views expressed on this site along with the individual post are solely mine and do not express the opinions or values of my employer or any related agencies.

Hi! I might be mistaken, but I think you presented at C2E2 a few years back. Looks like you’re now in TX, so it’s probably not likely that you’d want to come back to present again in April, but I’m interested in putting together an intermediate/advanced panel about highlighting diverse comics through selection, cataloging, programs, etc. Might this be something you would want to do? Or, if not, do you know other catalogers who might want to do this? Thanks in advance!
Hi Rachael! A trip to C2E2 does not seem likely this year for me, though I have been on a panel several times for the librarian collection development day. Let me contact some people to see if we can get a cataloger on your panel.
